Project brief
The theme of my project is 'My London' and I will be responding to this theme by going to different places and capturing different environments, with photo's inspired by other photographers.
In this project, I will be researching the following artists;
- Rodney Graham
-Berenice Abbott
-Ansel Adams
-Minor White
-Mario Giacomelli
-Clyde Butcher
- Guy Tal
I will research using different sources such as; the Internet, gallery's, exhibition sights.
In order to experiment, I will try out shooting in different environments such as urban and rural, and at different times of day.

Ally Pally
Alexandra Palace is a building in North London, England. It was built in 1873, and built to be a 'People's Palace' and later got given the nickname 'Ally Pally'.
In 1936 it became the headquarters of the world's first regular public "high-definition" television service, operated by the BBC. The Alexandra Palace television station was located on the site and its radio tower is still in use.
I chose to photograph Ally Pally because of the sights and views. I realised that I really liked to photograph the natural environment, (especially close up of tree tops and far shots) in the urban environment, so my work will be mainly focusing on that.
So this week I will be going down to Hampsted Heath to capture some more of the environment.

I took this photo while it was raining, creating the road to reflect bright colours. I found the warm blend of colours such as: oranges, reds, pinks and purples particularly interesting.
The brightly coloured lights contrast with the dull looking houses in the foreground, emphasising something almost magical.
As a result of this outcome I think links with the work of Guy Tal.

SYMMETRY, patterns and shop displays - Inspired by lewis baltz, beatrice abbott
newsagents shop windowI have taken this photograph inspired by Beatrice Abbot as in her photographs she explores the detail in buildings which made the image more interesting.
I have tried to re-create this effect by doing a close-up of the shop of a newsagent front window, with the rectangle advertising cards. |

Why I have taken this photo..
Like the other photos, it shows patterns and symmetry, but the main reason why I took this picture was because of the old-look to it which I thought had similarities to Minor White's work.

This photo was inspired by Karen Hoyt. I think it relates to her work because of the contrast between the light and dark.
Some of her work: From taking these photographs, I have now realised I like the idea of the old with the new, so I will be looking at Taylor Jones and Amit Sha'al for my next response.

With these two photos, I was trying to look further into the idea of the natural with the man made, as shown with the gate and tree and lamppost and grass.
